EthSign is a decentralized, versioned electronic agreement signing Dapp built with Web3 technologies. EthSign is built upon the Web3 infrastructure that has just become mature over the past few years: Decentralized Identity, smart contract platforms and decentralized storage network, providing same functions as its Web 2 signing applications: uploading agreements, agreement signing, and the verification of signatures and versioning agreement in the future.

Why Rebuild with Web3?

Electronic signature services found in many business scenarios often make users uncomfortable due to centralization:

  • The user must verify the signature and retrieve the signed document with the permission of the service provider.

  • Documents containing confidential information are uploaded and stored in tech company-controlled cloud storage platforms, whose Terms of Service users do not control.

  • Once the E-signature service providers shut down, data on their servers is inevitably deleted.

As the dawn of blockchain and Web 3.0 has brought on decentralization, immutability, and transparency at levels unseen before, people are no longer content with authentication from controlling central authorities.

The solution we offer is through WEB 3.0. With EthSign, there is no centralized server to store users' log in information or the documents they signed, we keep it 100% transparent and decentralized.

Tech Stack We Use to Build EthSign

Decentralized Identity

EthSign integrates multiple DID protocols to onboard more users and provide better UX. Because EthSign does not have control over any user data or information using DID protocols, this standards-based decentralized identity system can provide greater privacy and control over your data.

Decentralized identity (DID) is a trust framework in which identifiers, such as usernames, can be replaced with IDs that are self-owned, independent, and enable data exchange using blockchain and distributed ledger technology to protect privacy and secure transactions.

Smart Contract Platform

Smart Contract is a computer program or a transaction protocol which is intended to automatically execute, control or document legally relevant events and actions according to the terms of a contract or an agreement.

Eliminate all centralized server concerns, using all EVM – compatible Blockchain as public cloud. Everything that user can see on EthSign actually runs on smart contract and user's browser. We are currently deployed on Ethereum, Matic, Near, Binance Smart Chain, Fantom and Avalanche.

Decentralized Storage

EthSign encrypts and store file into trustless distributed networks. We support Filecoin, IPFS, Sia(Skynet) and Arweave and many more decentralized file storage networks, EthSign gives users the ability to choose which decentralized stroage network according to their preferences. Among decentralized storage networks, Arweave provides permanent storage, which is very suitable for file storage with small size and high backtracking rate such as protocols.

Middleware

Middleware is an indispensable piecemeal component in the Web3 technology stack. By integrating middleware, EthSign gives you user experience that is comparable to that of Web2's:

  • Magic allows users to log in to the Web3 application through their email, and it automatically generates a public and private key pair for the user

  • Fleek is a caching platform between the user's browser and the decentralized storage network, which can greatly shorten the time that users need to wait

  • EPNS and HAL provide message push services from on-chain to off-chain. Users who are invited to sign on the chain will receive E-mail as a reminder

  • The Graph and Covalent provide on-chain data retrieval services. By retrieving the databases they provide, we can quickly scan all relevant documents on the chain of users
